After falling to number two ranked Alabama by 10 points to open up the season, the Mountaineers have bounced back quickly shutting out Towson for the school’s first shutout since 2010 and then knocking off Maryland in a high scoring affair. They won on a game winning 47 yard field goal by Josh Lambert as time expired to get revenge on a blowout loss against the Terps from last season.

Clint Trickett is playing like he has never played before, throwing for 1,224 yards and seven touchdowns through three games. Five-hundred eleven of those yards came against Maryland on Sept. 13. Clint has surprised a lot of people so far this football season as he looks confident in his throws and his ability to be a leader on the team. However, the schedule will only get tougher from here on out as the Mountaineers Big 12 schedule gets under way.

Along with Trickett, another big name to keep an eye on throughout the season is wide receiver Kevin White. The junior college transfer currently leads the team in receptions (32) and receiving yards (460). If White keeps playing like he’s been playing he could be on the Heisman watch before we know it.

Trickett accomplished a Mountaineer record during the recent Maryland game, throwing for the most yards in a road game in school history. It was the second most passing yards in a game behind Geno Smith when he torched Baylor back in 2012 for 654 yards and eight touchdowns. But Clint’s record won’t mean anything if the Mountaineers don’t accomplish their goals they have set out for them as the season continues.
