Feeling lonely? Hop on the Internet
Well, Valentine’s Day has just passed. But what about those of us who are single? What should we celebrate? Let’s celebrate you. Let’s celebrate dating. Let’s celebrate the possibilities. Let’s celebrate the unknown.
There are so many amazing people you can meet, but only if you want to. You’re not gonna meet anyone new if you’re watching TV alone every night. You’ve gotta get out there and start meeting people.
An easy way to get started is online, from the comfort of your own home. Grab a cup of coffee in the morning, and sign up in your underwear. Just make sure the pictures you post of yourself are from a more clothed time in your life.
Dating is making a serious comeback. Just look at the statistics. There are over 50 million people registered on online dating sites. I did a Google word search at the end on January on words associated with dating. The numbers are astounding. The word dating was searched 13,600,000 times in one month; online dating: 1,000,000; how to date: 450,000; free online dating: 301,000.
Are all of these people looking for love? Maybe. But one thing is for sure. They are looking for a date. And you might just be the person they want to go on a date with. Now is the perfect time to be single and dating.
Just imagine the possibilities. With the help of the Internet you have the opportunity of meeting 49,999,999 people if you sign up for a few dating websites. OK, you would need to sign up for more than a few and spend a few decades winking and writing e-mails, but you get my drift.
We’ve gotta get our dating profiles up and running before spring fever hits. You know what that’s like, right? Now we’re bundled in our enormous sweaters, funny hats and snow boots. Spring is just around the corner. The official day is March 20. So you better get ready, the short skirts will be hitting the pavement soon.
When those snowflakes stop falling and the ice starts melting, things start getting hot. And I don’t just mean temperature. Purple violets and morel mushrooms start peeking through the grass. The birds start their journeys back through the Mountain State. It’s time to get out the binoculars, your laptop and the official online dating field guide. Bird watching is fun, but you’re not out to date any birds are you?
Some would consider dating a challenging pastime but with some simple some tools and the right attitude, you can have loads of fun. Getting started with your online dating profile is easy and, once started, online dating will provide hours of fascination and enjoyment. If you’re nervous about dating, that’s OK.
We’ll start with the basics. One of my favorite sites is OKCupid.com. It’s totally free (for now). It’s a great one to get started with. Let’s have a little crash course with online dating, shall we?
First off, you’ll need a couple pictures of yourself. If you don’t have a camera, borrow one. You’ll need at least two pictures. One close up, preferably when you’re smiling, and one full body shot. On most of the sites, you can post more pics, but two is the bare minimum. Please don’t wear sunglasses in your main shot. If you want to post one with your super cool Ray Bans, post that one later on. People will want to see if you have baby blues or chocolate brown eyes.
Then you’ll need to fill out the basics: age, occupation, hobbies, favorite music, books, movies, television shows, etc. There will probably be an ‘about me’ section. If you’re wanting to attract attention, get creative, be fun, and be honest. If you don’t do anything fun, it’s time to start having fun. No better time like the present to watch a new movie, join a club, try something new or read an interesting book. Interesting people like to meet other interesting people. It’s time to be your best self!
