Bailey Sarian a YouTube legend
By Candice Black
“Murder, Mystery and Makeup” are not normally topics people talk about in one sitting but Bailey Sarian made a name for herself with her show of the same name. After jumpstarting her success with MMM, Bailey now hosts two podcasts and YouTube shows.
My obsession with MMM was quick dive into true crime videos and introduced me into the world of YouTube content.
In the height of the pandemic, my friends told me about Bailey and her channel and told me the premise of “Murder Mystery and Makeup,” where she sits down and talks about a true crime story that’s been “heavy on her noggin” and does her makeup at the same time. I soon created a routine of watching one of her videos every day before going to bed.
When I saw her sleeve and bat tattoos, I knew she was a kindred spirit and I got hooked on her storytelling format. She breaks down the cases in a conversational way while maintaining respect for the victims and presents it in a way that makes sense. While she does cover some of the most talked-about cases like Jeffrey Dahmer, Ted Bundy, Richard Ramirez and John Wayne Gacey, most of the stories are ones most people haven’t heard about, which is important.
In 2021, Bailey debuted her show “Dark History” which is a combination of a YouTube show and a podcast with the audio coming out on Wednesdays and a video version of the episode uploaded on Thursdays on YouTube.
During “Dark History,” she sits down on a beautifully decorated, Gothic set and talks about some of the not-so pretty pieces of history that most of us never learned about in school.
For example, her first episode was about the DuPont C8 scandal.
She covers topics like students loans, minimum wage, witches, the circus and much more. These episodes are usually about an hour long and I love being able to learn in an entertaining and low-key way.
What I love most about Bailey’s content is that whether it’s MMM or Dark History, I’m learning something.
Whether it be about a psychopath who killed a slew or people or huge corporations whose history literally involves bloodshed, I always finish the videos with new information I didn’t have before. And that’s what helps us grow as people.
“Murder, Mystery and Makeup” airs on Mondays and “Dark History” is available on Thursdays on YouTube with the podcast dropping on all platforms on Wednesday. Podcast versions of her MMM stories are also available.
