Song of the Day: ‘The Suburbs’ by Arcade Fire
OK, so maybe we’re going a little overboard with the Arcade Fire love these past two days, but this album is really great on first listen and sure to only get better with each subsequent one.
And, as noted in our blog, the album is available for $3.99 (probably for today only) over at Amazon. So jump on that.
But anyway, today’s song is the lead and title track from the Canadian band’s third full-length, "The Suburbs," which, on first listen, seems to capitalize on "Neon Bible’s" take of "No Cars Go."
There’s an epic, synth influenced, post-punk sound driving this album and the title track is no exception. And of course, themes on the album continue to touch on alienation, isolation and the collapsing of suburban life, but it’s this line from the title track that really had us:
"Can you understand? I want a daughter while I’m still young. I want to hold her hand, show some beauty before this damage is done. But if it’s too much to ask, if it’s too much to ask, send me a son."
