Song of the Day: ‘Two’ by The Antlers

By Staff | Jul 20, 2010

Despite its lack of a chorus and the depressing subject matter it tackles, "Two" from The Antlers’ 2009 album, "Hospice," is the catchiest song I’ve heard in months.

Catchy in this instance is relative. This isn’t a song you’ll find yourself singing along to — and you probably wouldn’t want to anyway.

But it’s catchy here in the sense that its simple melody will worm its way into your head and as you delve into the lyrics you’ll instantly want more from this story — even if the band said it "bit off more than it could chew" with this concept album about a hospice worker and the cancer-stricken patient he falls in love with.

And that’s all because the simple melody constructing the song is so well-written. A lot of bands could learn a thing or two here about how powerful melody is, but I digress.

Try listening to this song and not having your heartbroken, only to want to return to that beautiful pain over and over again.
