Song of the Day: ‘Goody Goody,” by Sophie Madeleine
No instrument in the indie world — save, perhaps, the banjo — has enjoyed quite the resurrection the ukulele has. And I’m not just saying that because my girlfriend plays one.
Pick an album and chances are there’s a song with a uke somewhere.
Two of the biggest purveyors of the tiny, guitar-like instrument are Sophie Madeleine and Dent May and His Magnificent Ukulele. Both artists use the uke almost exclusively, and yet neither gets repetitive.
Featured today is Ms. Madeleine’s "Goody Goody," which is everything you’d expect from a uke track: light, breezy instrumentals, doo-wop-style background harmonies, and lyrics about love. Oh, and kazoos!
