The Media Watchdog’s At it Again

? Sean Hannity lives in a glass house

I am continually flabbergasted by Sean Hannity. Last week on his show, “Hannity & Colmes,” Hannity baulked at accusations that he was friends with far-right neo-nazi Hal Turner, even though Turner himself later stated the two were friends who shared similar values. Meanwhile, Hannity still has been heavily criticizing Barack Obama on Rev. Wright’s comments (to which Obama has publicly denounced on numerous occasions), even though Hannity’s own criticism on the late Rev. Falwell was almost nonexistent. Bloggers, meanwhile, are nailing Hannity with his own sentiments. In an interview with Christopher Hitchens following Falwell’s death, Hannity said, “I knew Rev. Falwell, Christopher. I know the good work this man has done.” The late Falwell was involved in money transferring scandals and said things like, “Gay folks would just as soon kill you as look at you,” and Falwell said this of the LGTBT community and Sept. 11, “I point the finger in their face and say ‘you helped this happen.'” That being said, I think we should all be a little more careful of who throws the first stone.

? And another thing I guess John McCain didn’t know

Presumptive Republican nominee John McCain has been in the news lately because of factually wrong statements, or “gaffes,” as his campaign smoothly calls them, confusing Al Qaeda in Iran. Some say these “slip-ups” are part of a larger plan to attempt to link Al Qaeda and Iran in the public’s minds’ eye, while others dismiss them as the ramblings of a 71-year-old man. Either way, it’s bad. Sen. McCain actually got stumped again, though. The entire Q & A can be found online at The New York Times, but here’s a troublesome snippet:

Q: Do you think contraceptives help stop the spread of HIV?

McCain: (Long pause) “You’ve stumped me.”

Q: “I mean, I think you’d probably agree it probably does help stop it?”

McCain: (Laughs) “Are we on the Straight Talk Express? I’m not informed enough on it. Let me find out. You know, I’m sure I’ve taken a position on it on the past. I have to find out what my position was. Brian, would you find out what my position is on contraception — I’m sure I’m opposed to government spending on it, I’m sure I support the president’s policies on it.”

Where’s Lieberman whispering in his ear when you need it?
