A peek at the upcoming ‘Suicide Squad’

By Staff | Aug 1, 2016

The Marvel Universe’s offbeat, edgy, rag tag “Guardians of the Galaxy” shook the stratosphere on August 1, 2014.

Comic Con 2016 attendees viewed a preview which introduces Kurt Russell as Ego, the Star Lord’s dad. Backed by Fleetwood Mac music, the teaser has drawn such strong pirated trending that Warner Bros. released an “official” version which promotes the sequel due in the Spring of 2017.

For this year, D.C.’s “The Suicide Squad” has grabbed all the expletives at unfinished previews – “mind blowing,” “insane,” “perfect,” and “amazing” – with word that more than half of the audience clapped at the end.

Unfamiliar with the Squad? They are a team of supervillains who are offered their freedom in exchange for turning black ops near suicide missions. The characters include:

  • ?Deadshot (Will Smith) as an assassin for hire by day and supportive daddy figure at night. The expert marksman is close allies with filmstealing ? Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), a former psychiatrist turned crazed, scary and obsessed follower of the psychopathic ? Joker (Jared Leto). Plotting psychological games with the hand of Shakespeare, Joker has battled Batman (Ben Affleck) and director David Ayer has added some tattoos to give the crazed mocking laugh Joker a modernized gangster appearance.
  • Boomerang (Jai Courtney) utilizes – what else? – deadly boomerangs to waste adversaries.
  • El Diablo (Jay Hernandez) summons flames, the intensity of which he cannot always control.
  • ?Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) has a reptilian skin condition and a “cannibal rage” to match.

Others include Enchantress, soul swordswoman Katana, and Skipknot.

“The Suicide Squad” debuts Aug. 5 (early premieres Thurs., Aug. 4) .

Film Summer 2016 wraps with a historic re-make of “Ben Hur.” Superhero and fantasy lovers can anticipate “Doctor Strange” (Nov. 4) and “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” (Dec. 16).
