‘I Scream Sundae,’ Floats and Shakes, Too
Desserts are something to shout about at this ghoulish ice cream parlor.
Menu items include creations such as “Killer Clowns from Outer Space,” “Black Gashberry” and “Stranger Cheesecake Things.”
I Scream Sundae is located along Main Street in Ripley, WV. The shop opened this summer and is attracting customers from across the region, according to owner Charessa Wilkinson.
“It’s all about providing quality ice cream treats combined with monster classic themes,” she explained. “It’s a destination experience. We’re seeing customers from the Kanawha Valley and from, Ohio, too.”
The dcor resembles that of a haunted house with an interior decorator. An inflatable “Stay Puft Marshmallow Man” character from the “Ghostbusters” movie greets customers in the parking lot.
Once inside, the “Wicked Witch of the West” stopped by from “Oz” to peer over your shoulder. Movie posters featuring “Attack of the Killer Tomatoes” and “Attack of the 50 Foot Woman” adorn inside walls. Table decorations are comprised of various plastic skulls alongside napkins.
The selection of sundaes, floats and milkshakes is an ever-evolving process for the innovative staff. Treat suggestions have also been generated by enthusiastic customers.
New for fall, for instance, is “The Pumpkin Eater.” “The Garbage Pail Kid” has a base ingredient of chocolate ice cream mixed with Cracker Jacks. There’s a wax bottle on the side and it comes with a bubble gum playing card, too.
Cups of “I Scream” range from $3-$7. “Bloody” sundaes are priced from $5 to $9 with unlimited toppings of sprinkles, whipped cream and marshmallows. A selection of six “Slashed Throat Float” flavors are $5.
Bring an appetite for the larger treats such as the cake batter-flavored “Krusty the Klown” and “ET Phone Home,” which is complete with Reese’s Pieces. They sell for $9.
“It’s all about enjoying the experience,” said Wilkinson, who is a partner in the adjacent Sold Sisters Realty. Also, she’s gearing up for the second Halloween season with her nearby “Go Go Scare Show,” a non-traditional haunted house.
