Southern Living once again goes “Off the Eaten Path” with “On the Road Again” by Morgan Murphy.

Visiting Southern restaurants and finding recipes for their signature dishes, Murphy takes the reader on a culinary road trip through the South. The book travels to Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia, sampling food along the way, and even with a playlist in mind! There’s also a section on where to stay on your visit, so you can create a road trip of your own.

Alabama visits Tin Top Cafe for some Corn Salad, Acre for some Butter Bean Gnocchi and The Gulf for Fried Groups Sandwich with Lemon-Dill Sauce.

Arkansas visits Cotham’s Mercantile for Fried Green Tomatoes, The Main Cheese for The Main Cheese Farmers Market and Superior Bathhouse Brewery and Distillery for Gelato di Superior Pub Cookie.

Florida makes stops at 29 South for 29 South Sweet Tea Brined Pork Chops, Little Moir’s Food Shack for Dark Mash and 13 Gypsies for Bacon and Swiss Empanadas.

Georgia stops at Frog Hollow Tavern for From Hollow Tavern Sweet Corn Risotto, The Breakfast Club for Egg Florentine and The Farm House for Country Captain Chicken.

Kentucky visits Hillbilly Tea for Big Earl’s Chocolate Torte and Harvest for Fried Chicken.

Louisiana stops include Strawn’s Eat Shop for Strawberry Pie, Mr. B’s Bistro for Gumbo Ya-Ya and Willie Mae’s Scotch House for Willie Mae’s Butter Beans.

Oklahoma visits include Cuppies & Joe for Salted Caramel-Chocolate Cupcakes, Syrup for Crunchy French Toast and more.

South Carolina makes stops at Rita’s Seaside Grille for Shrimp and Grits, Bacon Bros. Public House for Pork Belly Sandwich and The Lot for Smoked Chicken Breast.

West Virginia stops include Hash Browns & New Grounds in Morgantown for Thrasher Taco and Jim’s Drive In in Lewisburg for Kathy’s Barbecue.

I made the Kentucky restaurant Minton’s @ 760’s Apple-Cinnamon French Toast. Using Gala apples, brown sugar and syrup for a sauce, and then cinnamon french toast, this was a delicious dinner that everyone enjoyed and didn’t take much preparation or time to prepare.
