Blogging Blenko Glass

By Staff | May 20, 2008

It’s amazing how many great West Virginian bloggers you find when you’re looking for them, and some of them get really specific. The Film Geek (thefilmgeek.blogspot.com), based in Huntington, is an excellent movie-review blog that’s intelligent, honest and funny. You have to love when a film-snob is willing to publicly admit when he digs a cheesy romance flick, and don’t miss the review he wrote for Iron Man on May 4. Hillary Homburg maintains Heart of Glass (media.herald-dispatch.com), a well-written blog that focuses entirely on WV-made Blenko Glass. ("Nothing symbolizes the state of West Virginia better or more beautifully than Blenko Glass," she writes.) If you like Blenko, you have to check this one out. Into costumes? So is costume-designer Dale Morton, from Hurricane, whose Costume Blog (dalemortonstudio.blogspot.com) highlights his ideas and other masters’ works. Morton doesn’t update very often, but his back posts will interest costume buffs. If you’re a hungry carnivore and you’re looking for your next meal, swing by The West Virginia Hot Dog Blog (wvhotdogblog.blogspot.com). These guys have been blogging about hot dogs in the Mountain State since January 2006. Seriously. If you have a favorite hot-dog joint, chances are the Hot Dog Blog has written about it. Finally, travel blogs are very popular, and a group of WVU students who are studying overseas has a really cool one going at Blogging from Abroad (fromabroad.blogs.wvu.edu). Eight students in different countries chronicle (or have chronicled) their experience with words, photos, and video, all on the same blog. It’s a cool look at Europe, Asia, and Africa, off the beaten path.
