Kanawha Players presents ‘Evil Dead: The Musical’

CHARLESTON - Evil Dead is a campy rock-musical directed by Ginger Basham-Workman and based on the cult classic Evil Dead/Army of Darkness movies. The music rocks, the stage blood flows freely and the chainsaws never run out of gas with this campy blood-filled comedy.

Kanawha Players Board of Directors was ecstatic to learn they were awarded rights to produce this hit show. Evil Dead: The Musical is on limited run, meaning it's much harder to get permission to perform it than your average show.

The group said it's an exciting show to have as the kick off into their 91st Season. "The community response has been amazing. Everyone has been very supportive and volunteers are coming out of the woodwork," said Basham-Workman. The lead actor, Terry Lanham, has not been on the stage in over 10 years but you would never know it when he takes the stage.

The director says this is a spectacular cast of very talented people who have all brought their A-game to the stage, as well as pitch in during rehearsals. Ted Rose playing "Jake," who is a barbershopper, has assisted with vocals. Cynthia Hall as "Shelly" was previously a professional cheerleader and instructor and has been a helping with dances like "Do The Necronomicon."

"We have been very fortunate to have such dedicated and talented cast in this show," Basham-Workman said.

The audience will notice right away this is not a typical Kanawha Players show. With hand-built props from Adam Edwards and Brian Greathouse, lighting design by Tim Hyatt, fight choreography by Shayne Workman and special FX makeup from Basham-Workman.

"There is a level of commitment and love the cast and crew who are all Evil Dead fans have for this production," Basham-Workman said. "With everyone pouring their hearts, souls and the occasional decapitated head into the show, the love is very evident. This is a show you do not want to miss."
