I get some pretty weird stuff coming across my desk and a lot of it is from bands wanting to get some exposure. Normally, the music I am asked to listen to isn't my cup of tea or isn't as polished as maybe it should be.
On a rare occasion, something interesting will be there to greet me in the morning. Today was one of those days. A big manila envelope was lying in my chair and inside was a whole crapload of info and a nicely-designed CD from a Lexington, Kentucky band who call themselves Dream the Electric Sleep.
The name immediately piqued my interest because I have been on a major Prog Rock kick lately. Yes, I am one of those rare, elusive WOMEN who digs Progressive Rock. Rush, Genesis, Yes, Supertramp, Jethro Tull ... some of the greatest bands ever.
So when I saw that a number of these bands influenced DTES, of course I had to give it a listen. Boy, these guys don't disappoint. The debut LP, "Lost and Gone Forever" is a concept album exploring the trials and tribulations of an eastern Kentucky coal miner and his wife.
Check out the title track and get the rest of the CD on the band's website.
