Students pay $475 for a six-week night-school course that includes classes in marijuana history, marijuana law, the basics of business and, of course, several courses in how to grow and cook marijuana — one taught by an anonymous professor who goes by the name "Nature." Two groups, each comprising 20 students, have graduated, and several other groups are on their way. "The students are a mixed bag," says attorney Paul Youngs, who teaches Med Grow’s law class. "We have patients who want to grow for themselves. We have people who want to be caregivers and who approach it as a business opportunity. We even had a priest who works with AIDS patients. It’s a mix of races and a mix of ages from the 20s to the 60s. And I believe some of the students are not even users." • Consumer Reports just published a comprehensive study on the safety of chicken. What they found out might scare you away from chicken forever. You would think that after years of alarms about food safety—outbreaks of illness followed by renewed efforts at cleanup—a staple like chicken would be a lot safer to eat. But in our latest analysis of fresh, whole broilers bought at stores nationwide, two-thirds harbored salmonella and/or campylobacter, the leading bacterial causes of foodborne disease. That's a modest improvement since January 2007, when we found that eight of 10 broilers harbored those pathogens. But the numbers are still far too high, especially for campylobacter. Though the government has been talking about regulating it for years, it has yet to do so. • Speaking of scary meat news: Scientists have grown synthetic pork meat in a lab setting. • Ever wondered what superheroes would look and act like if they were emo? Yea, us too. Check out JSalvador's drawings depicting just such an imagining to the left. • Neatorama has a collection of the eight most beautiful bridges in the world. Enjoy. • We think this boy's sign — "Corduroy skirts are a sin" — is pretty great, and a classic way to get back at someone in a non-violent, creative way.
