What is it about the Bat-man?
What is it about Batman that draws us to him? Is it his dark history — his parents brutally murdered in front of him? His humanism from his lack of superpowers? The colorful villains he so often faces? The zingers that pop up on screen — zap! kapow! boom! — during fight scenes?
Surely it’s all of these things. Yet, as I prepare myself for “The Dark Knight,” I’m most eagerly anticipating the hyped-to-be-legendary performance of the late Heath Ledger. Already being billed as one of the ages and possibly for the award-givers, Ledger’s Joker is dark and psychotic.
Fitting then that in a summer already chock full of great superhero flicks — “Iron Man,” “The Incredible Hulk,” “Hellboy,” “Hancock”— the best is perhaps yet to come.
